BLUE Energy says it has commenced digging of the first of five wells planned for the exploratory drilling program at its Walloon coal fields.

Chief operating officer John Phillips says the first well, known as Orphan One, is a coal-seam gas core hole designed to evaluate the Walloon coal fields.

Phillips says the program is aimed at obtaining coal thickness and distribution data together with gas content and permeability data.

The work follows completion of exploratory drilling at its Itude Three site.
