DARWIN will host the annual Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) conference and exhibition which will be held between May 31 and 3 June 2009.
APPEA is the largest oil and gas industry gathering in the southern hemisphere and attracts representatives of leading companies from around the world.
Chief Minister Paul Henderson says that the event is a must-attend event for those in the drilling and exploration industries as it allows groups to network and explore new business opportunities.
The conference theme is New FroNTiers and Darwin’s selection as the host of this year’s gathering recognises the Northern Territory’s growing stature as a new frontier in the petroleum industry.
Projects such as Darwin LNG, the Blacktip gas project and INPEX’s Ichthys LNG project have put the Territory firmly on the map as a can-do place that’s open for business.
Henderson claims that the delegates are all here because they are looking towards the future and beyond the current global economic conditions. He says that like the Northern Territory, they have confidence in the future and in the prosperity that can be achieved through a strong oil and gas exploration and production industry.
APPEA will host the conference in conjunction with the APPEA exhibition at the Darwin Convention Centre.
1600 delegates from around the world are expected to attend the conference and exhibition. The boost to the local Territory economy over the four days is expected to be more than $1million.
