A BOOM in deep exploration drilling activity in Australia has put the spotlight back on diamond bit performance, according to Atlas Copco Construction & Mining Australia.
Underground drilling equipment manager, Dave Brooker, says the Craelius 16mm Jet Bit has “continued to shine in a competitive field”.
The Craelius Jet Bit was internationally launched in 2006 as the first high-matrix bit on the market. According to the company, the product features a 16mm diamond impregnation depth and unique design that allows for fast cutting and penetration without burning the bit or weakening the segment fixtures.
“The theory behind it is if you’re drilling deep holes you can leave it in the hole longer because you’ll get more life out of it,” Brooker said.
Atlas Copco says contractors are continuing to use the bit because of its free-cutting penetration and proven performance in hard ground formations.
“The bit uses diamond technology and combines matrix powders and diamonds to increase bit life and productivity,” he said.
Atlas Copco says the Jet Bits are allowing contractors to drill deeper holes and enabling them to drill for longer without worrying about bits breaking off in the holes or needed to be regularly changed.
