Drill and blast contract win for Oz’s biggest magnetite development

THE NRW Holdings and VDM Group joint venture has been awarded a $240m contract for bulk earthworks at CITIC Pacific’s Sino iron project at Cape Preston in the Pilbara, Western Australia.

The two Perth-based contractors say they will drill, blast and excavate more than 6.5 million cubic metres of rock at what is the biggest magnetite development in Australia.

Work is expected to begin in May 2009 and be complete sometime in August 2010.

The contractors say that as many as 500 personnel will be involved in the project.
