METGASCO has announced that drilling of the coal seam gas (CSG) exploration well Wyan-E1 in north-east NSW is underway.

Metgasco says the well is a vertical well designed to evaluate coal development in the Walloon Coal Measures on the western margin of the Clarence Moreton Basin. The well will be drilled to a proposed total depth of 700m.

According to Metgasco, the well is located in PEL 13, approximately 28km south-west of the Casino township. The company will test the presence, depth, thickness and quality of the coal seams in the Walloon Coal Measures in the western portion of PEL 13.

Metgasco says it will also assess the CSG production potential of the coals at this location as a secondary objective.

The assessments will incorporate coal sampling, gas testing and gas monitoring during the drilling and wireline logging processes.
