Dual-purpose rig to hit Aussie shores

ATLAS Copco is set to officially launch a fully mechanised dual-purpose rig in Australia said to double bolting productivity.

The Cabletec LC is a fully mechanised dual-purpose rig designed for production drilling and rock reinforcement.

According to the company, it has a double boom system for hydraulic tophammer production drilling in combination with a cable bolting system. It also features a computer-based control system for optimum productivity and precision.

The rig is able to drill bolt holes up to 30m long for cut-and-fill or sub-level stopping applications.

According to the manufacturer, separate booms keeps cement at a safe distance from the rockdrill and reduce maintenance costs.

A fold-out arm allows a 1.7t cable cassette to be refilled quickly, while the automated cement mixing system is able to be pre-programmed to suit specific rock conditions.

A number of the rigs are currently being used in Africa, South America and Europe, with the first to hit Australian shores by November 2008.
