Green groups say Gorgon LNG project should not go ahead

GREEN groups are calling for all gas and oil development and exploration, including the Gorgon LNG project, to cease following the spill.

The Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association says the West Atlas is a very, very rare incident. She says the industry hasn’t seen one like this in Australia since 1984.

Environmentalists are especially eager that the Gorgon development off the Pilbara does not go ahead because the drilling rigs used will be similar to those in the Timor Sea.

But the Association claims that such comparisons are not appropriate because Gorgon will be a gas project, which is less risky that oil.
