THE ANNUAL Geoscience Exploration Seminar (AGES) has attracted the largest group of Chinese mining and exploration representatives to visit the Northern Territory.
Chief Minister, Paul Henderson, and Resources Minister, Kon Vatskalis, have met the delegation which included representatives from the peak China Chamber of Commerce of Metals, Minerals and Chemicals Importers and Exporters (CCCMC).
Henderson says the turn out is a direct result of the Government’s China Minerals Investment Attraction Strategy which has been promoting the benefits of investing in the Territory. He says the message to potential investors and trading partners is that the Territory, while not immune from the fallout from the global financial crisis, is open for business and well placed to withstand the current economic downturn.
The Chief Minister says the state needs to maintain investment and business confidence to support economic activity in the Territory and jobs for Territorians.
The Chief Minister also met the CCCMC in Beijing during his trade and investment trip to Asia and the US in January 2009.
Resources Minister, Kon Vatskalis, saya there are 28 Chinese delegates attending the AGES conference from companies such as the China Development Bank, Yeshan Mining, THTF Mining and Sinopec.
Vatskalis claims the CCCMC which is China’s peak body for the resources sector with over 4,000 members, is participating in the Northern Territory Investment Strategy seminar which is being run concurrently with AGES 2009.
The seminar focuses on how to conduct business and invest in the NT and provides the opportunity for face-to-face meetings with Territory companies to gain a greater understanding of the exploration investment opportunities on offer.
Vatskalis says that bringing together so many high profile international investors and Territory business people will provide a real opportunity for the mineral exploration industry to foster new partnerships.
