Pumps enhance drilling projects

An Australian miner has acquired several Allight CD150MSA pumps to enhance its coal seam drilling projects in NSW.

McDermott Drilling has taken on the pumps to support its drilling projects and charge pumps to supply water at its Camden Gas and Santos exploration projects in NSW.

According to the company, rig operators can run the pumps attached to water supplies up to 700m away.

McDermott says the pump is able to start and run dry without any damage. It also features automatic start functions that shut off when the water level is down.

The CD150 is a variable speed pump with solids handling capabilities of up to 45mm, maximum head of 48m, and a flowrate of 140 litres per second.

The pump also comes with a remote control allowing the operator to adjust the water flow to the main drill.

Allight representative, Paul Nielson, says the remote control allows pumps to be located far from water resources while still allowing the rig operator to easily control water flow.

“The flow of water required for drilling, fraccing and extracting coal seam gas is different at different stages so the CD150s,” he said.
