Queensland explorers get “leg-up” with government grants

GOVERNMENT grants are giving Queensland explorers a helping hand with on-site drilling work, according to the state’s Mines and Energy minister.

DME minister, Geoff Wilson, says junior explorers are being given a “leg-up” with more than $1.5million in collaborative drilling grants to boost the state’s mineral mining activity.

"It's one of the richest resource regions in the world and we're keen for explorers to tap into its hidden potential,” he said.

According to the DME, nine exploration companies have used the grants to produce a rich source of new geological information since the second round was dished out in mid 2008.

Applications for the next round of Collaborative Drilling Initiative grants close on 5 December 2008.
