RIO is partnering with a leading drill manufacturer to develop autonomous drilling solutions for surface mining.

Rio will join with Atlas Copco to develop safer and more efficient automated systems for its surface operations.

Rio chief executive, Tom Albanese, says the development will also reduce carbon emissions and lower costs in a safer working environment.

Benefits resulting from automating drills include improved operator safety, higher precision, and improved equipment reliability.

According to the company, the venture will accelerate the development and deployment of autonomous drilling solutions.
