Sydney Gas says it knows the drill

SYDNEY Gas is currently testing water in the Hunter Valley region due to community concerns that the company’s exploratory activities will adversely affect the watertable.

The firm has brought in drill rigs to perform the tests in Broke before it plans to explore 10,000 square kilometres of the region for coal seam gas extraction. It was granted an exploration license for the area in 2008.

The community is concerned over the impacts the exploration and possible mining would have on the groundwater reserves.

A community member suggested the data obtained may be very useful to the community in the future.
