Underground drill rig commended for safety

SWICK Mining Services’ underground diamond drill rig has been recognised for its excellence in occupational health and safety at the Mining Prospect Awards.

The drill rig consists of a LM90 short feed Boart Longyear drill that is fitted to an Atlas Copco H104 carrier.

According to the company, it allows all components to be mounted on a mobile unit. The boom configuration also allows for fast and sturdy drill set ups with 360 degree capability.

The Prospect Awards was held at Sydney’s Cockle Bay Wharf on 22 October 2008 to encourage, recognise and reward excellence in the mining industry.

The award, sponsored by Sandvik, recognises improved safety standards using new technology, innovative processes and techniques.

Jan Lichos’ Brake Diagnostic Tool was also highly commended for the award.
