Atlas Copco has released what it says is the latest technology in micropiling, the MAI SDA T111 self-drilling micropile machine.

According to the company, the MAI SDA T111 can drill and reinforce the hole in one single process. The micropile consists of a 111 mm diameter hollow threaded rod with a sacrificial drill bit.

Atlas Copco says the system’s rod length can be flexibly adjusted to meet site requirements, with the help of extension couplings. This is especially useful if piling has to be performed in a confined workspace with, for example, limited head room.

MAI SDA T111 self-drilling micropiles can be installed with most tophammer rigs, like the Atlas Copco Mustang rigs.

According to the company, the unit minimises the amount of exhaust fumes, noise pollution and vibrations that impact the surrounding area. The T111 system has a selection of drill bits for anything from sandstone to hard rock, the company says.
