COMPAIR has developed a new air compressor range said to cut energy costs and reduce the carbon footprint of mining operations.

According to the company, the Quantima air compressor range is the most revolutionary advance in compressor technology in more than 50 years and is able to cut energy costs by up to 25% and greenhouse emissions by 35%.

The Quantima is a variable speed compressor with no gearbox or oil, and is said to be quieter and more compact than industry standard models.

The unit consists of one spinning part able to reach speeds of 60,000rpm and incorporates advanced compression technology to deliver efficient, high quality compressed air.

According to the company, the range delivers energy savings and emission reductions that could earn carbon credits under the new national emissions trading scheme, set to begin in 2010.

Compare says a 300W compressor is able to cut carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 2000t over ten years, which is equivalent to taking 75 cars off the road.
